Hand Made Businesses: Are you for them OR against them?

I have to write this blog because I have been discouraged at seeing comments made on other people's hand made business pages regarding wait time and discouragement regarding ordering because of wait time.  Then after reading these comments see that so many other people have so many good things to say about the items they receive and that it is worth the wait!

I personally have a 5 week wait currently and that is just because of the amount of orders we have.  At any given time we have between 80-100 open orders.  We work very hard and I pride myself in the amount of detail and time dedicated to each piece that I create as I know many others do!

Some shops handle things differently.  I know that "Sweet Love Creates" only works on Ready to ship nights and if you miss the item, well then you miss the item.  She does not have her store open, and I honestly can say that I understand why she does things this way!  She has had to remove her wall comment option on her page because so many people have been leaving negative comments on her page and I am just completley sadened by this! 

I read in an article once that "Prop Junkie" put out that the better the vendor the longer you will have to wait.  I was so appreciative to see that someone understood that there are hands that make these items from scratch and if your product is good quality and has superb style....well then you get orders, and you get a lot of them!  Who is going to make it all?  Yes most of the time Mom's....................Mom's who work out of their home and take care of their children, and their families.....so please let's not leave negative comments about how they are choosing not to stretch themselves so far thin that they are no good to the people that LOVE them! 

It is a complete honour to create and make things from scratch to send all over the world for those of you who appreciate it!  And I have just seen too often people making comments that are not necessary to those busy vendors about turnaround time and how they run their shop to manage that turnaround time.

So if your support lands with small businesses who handmake their items, the truth of the matter is  they CANNOT compete with turn around time that some other businesses offer, because they buy their products from overseas!  BUT no matter who you choose to support based on your own personal needs.....their is one thing to keep in mind.......please avoid the public negative comments!  It is not necessary, and discourages those small handmade businesses A.K.A: those Mom's who are at home making those sweet little items for you!

The ModStyle Shot

Well this is a first of many Mod Style Shot suggestions for photogs!!! 

My goal is to try and provide photographers with an opportunity to have an entire shoot put together.....something mod, trendy, new, and fun!  Since I am a prop designer I keep up with all the new trends on props and can hopefully give all of you the heads up and keep you updated on the New Mod Styles that are surfacing in the prop and photog world!  With that said if anyone has any ideas they would like to see come to life please feel free to email me at chicbebe@bell.net!  I would love to hear any new ideas or style shots that you may have!!!

For this Mod Style Shot we used the Chic BumbleBee Beanie and NEW bum warmer!  These bum warmers are all the new rave and on top of looking super duper cute they are so easy for you photogs!  Drop on a cute little newbie bum and there is no fiddling with a  diaper cover!  Any hat can have a sweet little bum warmer added or if you prefer and like the look of a diaper cover better, you can also request that!

Why don't we start with how this shot looks like behind the scenes!!

The Talented and outstanding McCarthy Photography gave us a behind the scenes look at her set up for this bumble bee shoot!  It is nice to be able to see a pull back shot of what exactly photographers are doing so that you can get an idea and feel for what this looks like behind the scenes and how photogs are getting their end results!

When talking with Natasha from McCarthy Photography her advise on pairing floors with backdrops was to "Try and keep lighter backdrops with lighter floors and darker backdrops with darker floors" this will flow better and help with blending during editing. 

Natasha used floors from PhotoProp Floors and Backdrops for both of these setups.  In the picture below you can see the actual backdrop and floor images embeded into the set up image.  This gives us a great view on how Natasha eyed and paired up the floors and backdrops.

When I was little..............

Well, when I was little all I wanted to be was a witch every year for Halloween!  AND every year my Mom would ask me "ARE you SURE! you want to be that again this year?"  LOL....and every year I would tell her "Yes!"  The absolute funny thing is that I was terrified of witches!!!  I watched The Wizard of Oz once and that was it for me!  That Darn wicked witch of the west was enought to curl my toes!!!!!   And you know every time I see someone with a basket and a vintage bike you know what goes through my head don't you?! "dun dun dun dun da da.....dun dun dun dun da da"  The spooky music you hear while seeing that scary lady ride her bike by the window!  :D  My husband laughs everytime I start singing when we pass a bike that looks similar! 

Childhood memories and influences last a lifetime don't they?  I think that is why I love this photo so much and am in absolute love with this sweet little creation!  :D  I hope that you enjoy it as much as I had a million memories flood back of all the little witch antics I had when I was little........
